Dr. Luís Couceiro
O Dr. Luis Couceiro graduou-se em Medicina e Cirurgia pela Universidade do Porto em 1992. O seu treino cirúrgico foi realizado no Hospital Geral de Santo António no Porto onde também se graduou como Especialista em Cirurgia Geral.
During his training he did internships at Hospital Pulido Valente in Lisbon and at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, USA. He graduated in 2002 as a Specialist in General Surgery at Hospital de Santo Antônio where he was also a professor in the chair of Surgery of the Medical Course at ICBAS. From 2004 to 2011 he worked as a Specialist in General Surgery at Vila Real Hospital. In 2006, he did an internship in Laparoscopic Surgery at the European Institute of Telesurgery in Strasbourg, where he developed his passion for laparoscopic surgery. In 2007 he underwent a laparoscopic colorectal surgery internship at Hospital St Pau in Barcelona.
His taste for laparoscopic surgery led him to found in 2007 the Portuguese Society of Minimally Invasive Surgery - SPCMIN, having been its first President, Vice President from 2009 to 2015 and currently Treasurer of this Society.
In 2012 he was invited to practice at the Royal Free London NHS Trust Hospital, currently responsible for laparoscopic gallbladder surgery and laparoscopic surgery for inguinal hernias. In London he is a member of the Local Faculty Group of the London Deanary, the body responsible for the training of internal surgery doctors. He participates as a trainer in several national and international surgery courses and is a member of the organizing committee of the SPCMIN Congress.
He currently works at the Royal Free Hospital in London and at Porto Hernia Clinic in the Order of São Francisco. The usual scope of surgery includes laparoscopic inguinal hernias in the repair of which uses a pioneering technique with the use of only 3 5mm trocars, complex abdominal hernias, stoma hernias and incisional hernias.
Dr. Carlos Damas
Dr. Carlos Damas graduated in Medicine at the University of Medicine from Lisbon in 2003. His surgical training was carried out at the Institute of Oncology in Lisbon.
During his residency he made rotations through Upper GI, Colorectal, Breast and Other Solid Tumours as well as an 18 months rotation in a General Hospital and 3 months rotations in Plastic, Paediatric and Vascular Surgery. Dr. Damas has a special interest in research and treatment of sarcoma, melanoma, thoracic and peritoneal malignancies. He has experience in the treatment of these diseases including techniques of regional chemotherapy like isolated limb perfusions, electrochemotherapy and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. During all his residency he attended the Trauma and Emergency Service in various hospitals in Lisbon. He concluded his residency in July 2011 with high marks attributed by a National Board in General Surgery.
After his training in Portugal he worked in the UK first at Devon and Exeter Foundation Trust and Imperial College St Marys Hospital where he develops skills in emergency surgery, laparoscopic assessment and treatment of abdominal hernias, groin, incisional and upper GI diseases.
Since 2012 he is a Substantive Consultant Surgeon recognised by the General Medical Council,
He currently works at Frimley Health Foundation Hospital in the UK and Lusíadas Hospital in Lisbon Amadora. He is also an Education Supervisor and Surgical Clinical Lead for Undergraduate Medical students from Southampton University.
