Can Inguinal Hernia Come Back After Surgery?

A very common question is: can the hernia reappear after surgery?

The answer is: it can, but it is infrequent.

Recurrence means the reappearance of the hernia at the same site after surgical treatment.

What is the risk?

With modern techniques, the risk is low:

Generally less than 1–5%

Especially when prosthesis (mesh) is used.
